A baby elephant playing on the beach is not playing. It is obeying orders. Burmese poachers slaughter entire families of elephants to capture the babies and smuggle them into Thailand. They are trained using a method of torture called phajaan, which means "crush." They are sold as slaves into the tourism industry to beg for money on the beach and on the streets. When they are too old to be cute, they are trained to give rides to tourists. And they suffer.
